A PS5 is one way to play Grand Theft Auto VI — not the only way. Here are the realistic routes for everyone else.
You do not need a PS5 to pre-order
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The pre-order itself is a purchase of the game and your launch-day bonuses — it is not a purchase of a console.
If you do not own a PS5 today, your order still stands. You choose the platform you actually play on when the game goes live, and many players buy or borrow hardware later, or play through streaming instead.
Option 1 — Xbox Series X|S
The game ships on Xbox Series X|S on the same day. Everything you get with an Ultimate Edition pre-order — the Vintage Vice City Pack, exclusive vehicles, outfits and in-game bonuses — is designed around the game, not around one console brand.
Option 2 — cloud gaming
Cloud services run the game on a remote machine and stream the picture to your screen. That means a laptop, a TV stick, a tablet or a phone with a controller can all act as the display.
What matters is your connection, not your hardware: a stable 20–30 Mbps line and a wired or 5 GHz connection give the smoothest result. Cloud play adds a little input delay, which most players stop noticing in a single-player open world.
Option 3 — Remote Play and shared consoles
Remote Play lets you run the game on a console in one room and play it on a phone, tablet or laptop elsewhere in the house — useful if the console lives with family or in a shared lounge.
Friends-and-family sharing also works: the account holding the game can be used on a household console, so one purchase is not tied to one room.
What about PC?
Rockstar has historically brought its games to PC after the console release. No PC date has been confirmed for Grand Theft Auto VI, so treat any listed PC launch date you see elsewhere as a guess rather than news.
The short version
Pre-order now to lock the launch discount and bonuses; decide how you play later. PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, cloud streaming or Remote Play are all valid routes to the same game.
Pre-Order Grand Theft Auto VI
The launch discount runs only until the release countdown ends — after that the full price applies.
Pre-Order NowFrequently asked questions
Can I pre-order GTA 6 if I do not own a PS5?
Yes. The pre-order is for the game and its bonuses; you can play on Xbox Series X|S, through cloud gaming, or on a PS5 you get later.
Can I play GTA 6 without any console?
Cloud gaming services stream the game to a laptop, TV, tablet or phone, so no console sits in your home.
Does PS5 Pro Enhanced mean I need a PS5 Pro?
No. It means the game takes advantage of PS5 Pro hardware if you own one. It runs normally on a standard PS5.
Will GTA 6 come to PC?
Rockstar usually releases PC versions after console launch, but no PC date has been confirmed.
